With immense pride and joy I reflect on the incredible experience of being a coach at the recently concluded Django Girls Eket event held on Saturday, the 27th of May, 2023, at AfricInnovate. It has been an event that not only brought together aspiring women programmers but also fostered a spirit of collaboration, learning, and empowerment.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Django Girls organization and the organizers for organizing this impactful event. Their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the tech industry is truly commendable, and it has been an honor to be a part of this initiative.
As a coach, I had the privilege of working closely with a group of talented and passionate young women who were eager to learn and explore the world of Django. Witnessing their enthusiasm and dedication throughout the day was truly inspiring. Each participant brought her unique perspective and experiences to the table, making the learning environment vibrant and dynamic.
Together, we embarked on a journey of discovery, taking deep dives into Introduction to web development, Html, CSS, Python, Django's fundamental concepts and best practices. From setting up a development environment to creating fully functional web applications, we tackled challenges and celebrated victories side by side. I must say, the progress made by each participant was remarkable. It was heartening to see their skills grow and their confidence soar as the day unfolded.
Beyond the technical aspects, the Django Girls event was also a platform for fostering connections and building a strong support network. Through interactive sessions, networking activities, and group discussions, the participants had the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with like-minded individuals and industry professionals. The sense of camaraderie that developed amongst the attendees was truly remarkable and will undoubtedly continue to flourish long after this event.
Moreover, the success of this event would not have been possible without the contributions of the organizers, volunteers, coaches, and sponsors (AfricInnovate, SheIsTechy, Django Girls) who generously shared their time, knowledge, and resources. Their dedication and support played a vital role in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for everyone involved. It is through such collaborative efforts that we can break down barriers and pave the way for a more diverse and inclusive tech industry.
To the participants, I want to commend every one of you for your unwavering determination and resilience. You embraced the challenges with open minds, and your eagerness to learn and grow is truly commendable. Remember that this event was just the beginning of your journey in the world of Django and programming. Continue to pursue your passion, seek out opportunities for further learning, and never be afraid to explore new horizons.
Finally, I urge all of you to continue supporting initiatives like Django Girls and other organizations that strive for inclusivity in the tech industry. Together, we can create an environment where diversity is celebrated, where talent knows no boundaries, and where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
Thank you once again to everyone who made this event possible, and congratulations to all the participants on their incredible achievements. May this event serve as a stepping stone towards a brighter, more inclusive future in the world of technology.
